Life Update: Fully Moved Out—Camper Life & A Simpler Season

As I write this from our cozy camper—our new “home sweet home” for now—I’m surrounded by the simplest setup we’ve had in years. We’ve fully moved out of the house, and in the process, we sold and donated all of our furniture. Every last piece. Tables, couches, beds, dressers, plants—gone to new homes via Facebook Marketplace, donations, or friends/family who needed them. It’s surreal to look back at the empty rooms we left behind and realize how much lighter we feel without it all.

In the process, we sold and donated all of our furniture—every couch, table, bed, dresser, you name it. Marketplace pickups, donation runs, gifts to friends and family—it’s all found new homes.

Letting go has been part lesson, part relief. Some items are easy to let go of, but others tug at the heartstrings. I’ve saved boxes upon boxes of things “for the kids when they move out”—old toys, childhood books, sentimental knick-knacks, even some family heirlooms I thought they’d cherish one day. Our kids didn’t want most of the “treasures” I saved , and that’s okay—it’s helped me release expectations along with the stuff.

It’s reminded me that memories aren’t tied to objects—they live in stories, photos, and the people we share them with. So, if you’re holding onto things for the “someday” handover, maybe ask sooner rather than later. You might be surprised, and it could save you a lot of emotional (and physical) space!

We also said very emotinal goodbye to my chickens (they went to my cousin’s family, where I know they’ll be loved and well-cared-for), and we’ve stepped away from beekeeping and gardening for now. No more hives buzzing, no more garden beds to tend, no more daily chicken chores. It’s a big shift after years of sharing those joys here—Bee Wednesdays, fresh eggs, homegrown veggies—but it feels right for this season. Less to maintain means more space for rest, reflection, and whatever comes next.

The house journey has been long and tough: eight months on the market, three contracts that collapsed (each one bringing hope then disappointment), endless showings, staging, and waiting. We knew this home would be a challenge to sell but had no idea it was going to be this hard! Now that we have officially moved out of our home, we’re no longer tied to show-ready rooms or uncertain timelines. We’re free.

Looking back, I can see how each contract, even though it didn’t close, moved us closer to our goals. The first one got us motivated to start selling our stuff and decluttering. The second one gave us the push (and confidence) to buy our camper. And the third one? It finally led us to sell everything, move out completely, and step fully into this simpler life. Progress doesn’t always look like we expect, but we’re definitely getting there—one step at a time.

Through every twist, this verse has been my steady ground:

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

I don’t fully understand why the sale dragged on or why we ended up here instead of closing, but I’m trusting He’s making our path straight—even if it’s a winding one.

This simpler setup is peaceful: tiny space, big sky, flexible days. We’re figuring out camper routines, enjoying the ease of minimal things, and leaving room for new adventures.

I’ve still got several blog posts sitting in my drafts about all the remodels we’ve done here over the years—the kitchen refresh, the backyard glow-up, the little DIY projects that turned this place into our home. I’ll be sharing those soon, so keep an eye out if you’re into home reno stories or just love a good before-and-after.

I’m excited to share more about this new season too: camper life hacks, what minimalism looks like for us, maybe some reflections on letting go of the chickens/bees/garden life.

With less to manage, I’ll have more time to post consistently. Thank you for walking this with me—your comments, prayers, and kind words have meant the world during the ups and downs.

If you’ve downsized drastically, given away beloved animals/plants, lived in a camper/RV, or navigated a stalled house sale, share your experiences below. What surprised you? Any tips for this kind of transition? I read everyone, and they encourage me.

Here’s to trusting the path, embracing lighter loads, and finding joy in the simpler things.

With a grateful, hopeful heart,
