Herbal Tea Challenge!

Did You know that tea is packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, herbal teas are a natural way to give your health a boost.

Herbal teas are not only delicious and relaxing, they can help with everything from detoxifying your body to boosting your energy levels.

 

By drinking tea, you are providing your body with much-needed hydration, which most people forget to monitor during cold, winter days.

 

Tea can relieve insomnia, calm an upset stomach, and help fight viruses and infections. Teas also have been proven to help protect against cancer, heart disease, and diabetes; encourage weight loss, helps burn fat, reduces stress,  prevent clogging of the arteries, reduce the risk of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, reduce the risk of stroke, lower cholesterol and promote mental alertness. And really this list can keep going…..

What is your favorite tea?

 

If you’re just getting started here are a few herbal tea recommendations:

 

Chamomile tea:  is known for its soothing and relaxing effect, helps you sleep as well as soothes an upset stomach, reflux, abdominal cramps including period pain and is a great source of Magnesium. Fun fact: In the 1600s it was recommended too ‘comfort the brain’,

 

Peppermint tea:  soothes the digestive tract, relieves stress, helps with weight loss, sinus relief, nausea, indigestion helps clear your skin from ache. Peppermint tea can also help relieve the hot flashes of menopause.

Dandelion tea: can gently cleanse the liver, stimulate digestion, reduce fluid retention, and relieve pain and swelling.

Ginger tea: is great when fighting a cold; soothes upset stomach, heartburn, boost immune system it also helps with weight loss and to lower cholesterol. Ginger is also a terrific circulation tonic and can help reduce stress and anxiety levels.

SleepyTime Tea: A calming blend of chamomile, spearmint, and lemongrass.  Helps you sleep, fight colds, ease menstrual cramps, upset stomach, immune boosting and antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, cancer killing antioxidants.

Bergamot: The citrus fruit is known as the main ingredient in Earl Grey tea but herbal tea can help with used to treat mild depression and digestion problems.

Cinnamon: in herbal tea helps improve digestive problems too. Cinnamon is a warming tonic, wonderful for easing winter chills, and also or people who feel the cold.

Fennel: Don’t let the distinctive licorice flavor put you off. Fennel tea is often served with honey for indigestion. A weaker form blended with chamomile flowers is great for babies with colic. To blend at home Sach suggests crushing fennel seeds, pouring over boiling water and straining into a mug.

Hibiscus flowers contain high levels of antioxidants, and in tea, and it is helpful for the inflammation of mucous membranes such as sore throats, gum disease, and cystitis. It has also been found to reduce high blood pressure.

Juniper berries are used by herbalists in teas for urinary tract problems and especially as a diuretic. The berries in a tea need to be boiled and can be mixed with other berries for assisting a healthy heart.

Lavender seeds are used in tea to promote a feeling of calm.

Lemongrass: Another tea to aid digestion, Lemongrass is good for bloating amongst other things. It is also helpful for headaches and good for nervous exhaustion.

Lemon Myrtle If you’re suffering from a winter cold or flu, this is the herbal brew for you. It has a great tangy lemon flavor and can be mixed in any black teas. With other herbs, it can be used as a cleanser and with honey is great for colds and flu.

Raspberry Leaf: This herbal brew is particularly good for pregnant women. Drinking raspberry leaf tea helps relieve morning sickness. And later in your pregnancy, two to three cups per day can lead to an easier delivery.

Sage:  this is a perfect cure for the blues. It has an uplifting effect and is great during menopause and PMS.

Spearmint: Another tea to get us through a long, cold winter, Sach says spearmint tea is excellent for sinus and upper respiratory conditions.Try it with lemongrass.

Vervain is a tea to calm the nervous system. Also used by medical herbalists in tonics widely for anxiety and mild depression.
